The Corona Virus Global Pandemic has put a wrench into 2020. Yet, the Pandemic will not stop The National Dog Show from airing this year! Here is all of the information you need to enjoy the National Dog Show 2020:

How Can I Watch The National Dog Show 2020?

Just like every other year, the National Dog Show will air as a two-hour special on Thanksgiving Day. Coverage will begin after the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, at 12:00 pm local time on NBC. Just like most events this year, there will be no spectators, vendors, or sponsors present due to Covid-19. Only NBC personnel, handlers and their dogs, and judges will be allowed. NBC is following strict CDC Guidelines, including wearing masks, practicing social distancing, and taking temperatures of personnel.

What is the National Dog Show?

The National Dog Show is one of the most famous and anticipated dog shows in the world. The AKC founded the show in 1879. The Kennel Club of Philadelphia has hosted it annually since 1933. Luckily, this year is no exception.

The AKC recognizes 206 breeds of dogs. Normally, 2,000 purebred dogs compete annually in the show. The competition is limited to only 600 dogs this year.

In the first round of the show, dogs of the same breed compete against one another. The “Best in Breed,” or the dog that the judges determine best represents the standard of the breed, moves onto the Group Level. In the second round of the show, or the Group Level, the “Best in Breeds” compete against other dogs in their groups. There are seven groups that the AKC recognizes: sporting, hound, working, terrier, toy, non-sporting, and herding. The winner of each group is called the “First in Breed.” Each group winner then competes in the final round for the “Best in Show.” This year, there will be 3 new breeds competing! The 3 new breeds include the Barbet, the Belgian Laekenois, and the Dogo Argentino.
