As a dog owner, you might have asked yourself at some point in your life: Should I Breed my Dog?
If you’re wondering whether or not to breed your dog, check out some of the tips we’ve listed below to help you make that decision.
Be a responsible Dog Breeder!
1. Not just anyone can breed dogs. It requires a lot of work, research, knowledge, time, and dedication.
2. Breeding dogs is not cheap. A responsible breeder has lots of expenses. These include quality food, hygiene items, veterinary appointments, vaccines, exams, medicines, among other things.
3. A responsible breeder must dedicate himself so that each new generation shows an improvement in relation to the previous one. This will ensure a good development of the breed.
4. Each breed has an official standard or description of how the ideal dog should look, move, and behave. An ethical breeder must be sure to breed dogs according to the established standard for the breed.
5. In addition to appearance, a responsible breeder must consider health issues, genetics, temperament, and consistency.
6. It is important to understand that every dog has faults and weaknesses. And that the Breeder must be responsible for helping to eliminate weaknesses and further develop the dog’s strengths.
7. An ethical Breeder plans everything so that all puppies can have a safe and loving home, with everything they need for a full life. If something happens to the puppy’s family, no matter how many years later, the breeder will have to take the dog back until he finds a new home for him.
8. Ethical breeders must accept responsibility for the puppies they produce. What does that mean? They need to be available to help, answer questions, and share information with new owners.
Should I Breed My Dog?
Sounds like a lot responsibility, right? Not just anyone should breed their dog.
If you have questions about the subject, you can contact responsible Breeders through Facebook Groups. You can also start reading books about Breeding Dogs to gain knowledge.
