Thanksgiving Foods Safe for Dogs to Eat

Turkey Meat:

The question on every dog owner’s mind is whether or not dogs can eat turkey on Thanksgiving. Turkey is actually highly nutritious for dogs, offering nutrients such as protein, riboflavin, and phosphorus. Dogs can eat the turkey meat on Thanksgiving, as long as it is not bathed in fats and seasonings. Be sure to remove the skin on the turkey before feeding it to your pup. Removing the skin will remove all of the excess butter, oil, seasonings, and herbs which will upset your pup’s stomach. In addition, make sure that there are no bones, onions, or garlic in the turkey that you feed your dog.

Sweet Potatoes:

Another Thanksgiving favorite that is highly nutritious for dogs are sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes contain fiber, vitamin B6, and vitamin C. Just like with turkey, be sure not to feed your pup any added ingredients to the sweet potatoes, such as marshmallows, maple syrup, or sugar.

Potatoes

Just like you, your dog can enjoy potatoes on Thanksgiving. Just be sure to share plain baked or boiled potatoes without any toppings, such as butter, pepper, or salt.

Apples

Plain apples are a great source of vitamin C and vitamin A for your dog. Just be sure to remove the core before giving your pup pieces of apple, as apple seeds can be toxic to dogs.
