BUSTER AND WHISKERS

Dog tricks are a great way to start bonding with your pet! Not only are tricks impressive, but they provide mental and physical stimulation for your dog as well. Here are some of the easiest dog tricks you can get your friend to do.

1.  Basic Obedience Commands for dog tricks

It is important to teach your pup the basic obedience commands. Start by using hand signals and a firm voice, along with treats and praise, to teach your dog to “sit”, “lay down”, and “come” when called. Once your dog learns to respond to your basic commands, he will more easily start to learn other new skills.

2.  Shake Hands

Shaking hands is a great way to show affection. This is a simple trick you can teach your dog in no time. Allow your dog to naturally paw when you lend your hand. When you make a fist with a treat inside your hand, your dog will try to release his treat by pawing at your hand. This is the time when you can use words like “shake” or “paw”. Repeat this cute trick several times and your dog will be a pro at it.

3.  Fetch

During playtime, use toys and treats to encourage your dog to “Fetch”. Fetching is definitely a skill you will want to teach your dog. It is important your dog not only learns to fetch, but also to bring the toy back to you. Begin by choosing his favourite treat or toy and allow him to give the toy back to you. You can do this by placing the toy in his mouth and teaching him to “drop it” in your hand or on the floor next to you. Use praise when he drops the toy correctly.  Next, use command words like “fetch!” or “go get it!” when you throw the toy. Instruct him to fetch and bring the toy back to you, then “drop it”. Repeat this process numerous times using treats to praise your dog.

4.  Roll Over

Besides being one of the most popular dog tricks, watching your dog roll over is one of the most cutest experiences for dog owners. Treats come in very handy here, making it real fun for your dog. Start by commanding your dog to “lay down”. Then slowly move his treat away from his mouth while telling him to “roll over”. Practice is key in teaching your dog this trick. Be sure to repeat it as many times as possible and your dog will be sure to impress.

5.  High Five

The High Five trick is all the more fun to teach your cute dog. Start by reaching out for his paw and slowly raise your hand higher for your dog to touch. Only give him a treat and praise if he reaches out correctly to your hand. Repeat this cool trick a few times using the words “high five”.
