BUSTER AND WHISKERS

You must be very excited to introduce your dog to the world, right? With the correct training techniques, socializing your dog will be both fun and easy. Here are some tips to help you socialize your dog in NYC.

1. Introduce New People

Have your dog meet new people slowly and steadily, starting with those closest to you. It is important to introduce your dog to people from all walks of life, from men, to women, to children. In order to ensure your pup is secure, confident, and well behaved around a diverse range of people, start the socialization process as early as possible.

2. Walk your Dog Frequently

Take your dog on walks all over your neighborhood.  Walk new routes with her and bring her to new places, such as various parks, pet shops, and dog friendly outdoor restaurants.  Exposing your pup to new situations, smells, sights, and people is extremely important. You can also sign your dog up for group dog walks and bring her to local dog parks.

3.  Make your Dog Feel Comfortable During Training Techniques

Observe your dog to evaluate the types of situations that make her shy, as well as the situations in which she is the most comfortable. Start by introducing your dog to adults and children with soft voices.

One of the best training techniques is to use positive reinforcement and rewards to encourage your pup. For example, reward her when she gives her paw to someone new. With patience and consistency, your dog will become more and more confident and well-adjusted.

4. Work on the Senses

During the first 16 weeks of life, your puppy is able to take in a lot about your world. Introduce her to a wide range of smells, noises, places, and people. Let her play on various textures such as grass, cement, wood, carpet, snow, and sand. Ensure your dog has as many new experiences and explores as many new things as possible, from children to elderly adults, from quiet music to loud sirens, from peaceful situations to crowded street fairs, see that’s clean maids. Socializing your puppy early on in life will help her grow into a confident adult dog that is calm in new situations later on in life.

5. Meet other Pets

Since dogs are naturally social animals, your puppy will want to interact with other dogs.  The sooner she learns how to properly interact and play with other dogs, the better, especially in a dense city like NYC, find here more information.   You can bring your dog to a group training class or enroll her in group dog walks where she will get to socialize and exercise with other dogs.

Not only is it important to introduce your dog to new dogs, but it is also imperative to expose her to other species of animals as well, such as cats, birds, horses, and other small pets.  Take her hiking upstate, bring her to a friend’s home who has a bird, or head off to the park here in NYC.

Your dog will continuously be exposed to newriences and things throughout her lifetime. Proper socialization will ensure she adapts with ease, no matter how stressful of a situation she is in.
